The Kandy Perahera
The Kandy Esala perahera is one of the most famous and colorful festivals in Sri Lanka. It is held every year in the historic city of Kandy during the month of Esala ( July or August). This grand procession is organised to honour the sacred Tooth relic of Lord Buddha, which is kept at the Temple of the sacred Tooth Relic.
Many people come to see the perahera. There are beautifully decorated elephants,dancers,and drummers. The elephant wear colorful clotes and lights. The dancers perform traditional dances,and the drummers play loud and exciting music.
The Perahera is held at night,and it is very beautiful to watch. People gather on the roads to enjoy this grant event.
